What Is Key Locking Insert ?

Key Locking Insert, also known as a Keensert or Keysert, is a robust threaded insert made from high-strength stainless steel 303 (1.4305). These inserts are passivated in accordance with EN 2516 standards. Our standard product line features metric thread dimensions, with the option to request imperial dimensions and custom styles including Thinwall, Heavy Duty, Extra Heavy Duty, and Solid.

Key Locking Inserts are highly versatile and can be used to reinforce threads in alloys, lightweight materials, steel, and cast iron, enhancing thread strength. They are also ideal for thread repair, enabling the replacement of damaged threads with the same nominal diameter. Key Locking Inserts minimize wear and tear, allowing for multiple tightening and loosening of bolts.

Locking inserts come with a dry film lubrication layer on the surface, providing protection against screw galling. They offer a secure lock against rotation and vibration, featuring either 2 or 4 pre-assembled kees, depending on the diameter. Once the kees are securely installed into the parent material, the assembly becomes form-closed, eliminating the need for thread gauge checks per DIN standards in the kees area.

Key Locking Inserts provide high-strength joints even in materials with lower inherent strength. They find extensive applications, including suspension units, electronic equipment, and transmission housings. Notably, all Key Locking Inserts are constructed from stainless steel, ensuring quality and reliability before installation.

The installation of Key Locking Inserts requires no specialized tools; standard taps and drills are sufficient for hole preparation. Thanks to the self-broaching kees, these inserts can be set to the desired depth with ease, ensuring positive resistance against rotation during installation.
