How is a Keensert installed?

Installing a Keensert (Keysert) involves several steps to ensure a secure and durable thread repair or reinforcement. Here’s how a Keensert is typically installed:

1. Drill the Hole:

  • Preparation: Start by drilling out the damaged or undersized threads in the base material using a drill bit that matches the outer diameter of the Keensert. The drill size should be specified in the Keensert’s installation guide.
  • Depth: Ensure that the hole is drilled to the correct depth to accommodate the full length of the Keensert.

2. Tap the Hole:

  • Tapping: Use a tap that corresponds to the external thread size of the Keensert to cut new threads into the drilled hole. This step creates the threads into which the Keensert will be screwed.
  • Clean the Hole: After tapping, clean the hole to remove any debris or chips, ensuring a clean surface for the Keensert installation.

3. Install the Keensert:

  • Alignment: Position the Keensert over the tapped hole, aligning it carefully.
  • Screwing In: Using a standard installation tool, screwdriver, or power tool, screw the Keensert into the hole until it is flush with or slightly below the surface of the base material.

4. Drive in the Locking Keys:

  • Key Installation: Once the Keensert is fully seated, use the installation tool or a hammer to drive the locking keys (small pins) down into the base material. These keys prevent the Keensert from rotating or pulling out, providing a secure and permanent installation.
  • Ensure Proper Seating: Make sure that the keys are fully driven in and flush with the top surface of the Keensert.

5. Final Check:

  • Inspection: Inspect the installation to ensure that the Keensert is securely in place and that the internal threads are clean and ready for use.
  • Ready for Use: The internal threads of the Keensert are now ready to accept standard bolts or screws, providing a strong and durable thread.

Summary:

  • Drill: Drill out the hole to the specified diameter.
  • Tap: Tap the hole to create threads for the Keensert.
  • Install: Screw in the Keensert until it’s flush.
  • Lock: Drive in the keys to lock the Keensert in place.

This installation process ensures that the Keensert is securely anchored, offering enhanced strength and wear resistance for threaded connections.
